2011 Adult Mission Trip: New Orleans
The Maple Grove Adult Mission Team (18 strong this year) went to New Orleans to work with Habitat for Humanity as that community continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our Maple Grove community of faith and numerous other friends, they were also able to drop off a truck of supplies to the Hargrove UMC in Tuscaloosa, AL to help with their tornado recovery efforts. The mission team’s work in New Orleans included installing a fence, kitchen cupboards, preparing the yard, painting the whole interior, and constructing a sidewalk. These Maple Grove missioners accomplished a lot and had a great deal of fun in the process.
Thank you Maple Grove friends for your support in making these mission trips a possibility for all who want to live out being the hands, feet, and heart of Christ!
2011 Youth Mission Team Head to Sea Islands, SC
Maple Grove youth will go to South Carolina for their week-long mission trip June 18-25. We will be working with an organization called Rural Mission to improve the homes of local residents. The families we will serve are African-American descendants of slaves. Their Gullah culture has developed over generations on the isolated, rural Sea Islands. In addition to the housing repair work we will do, we plan to visit historic Charleston and Fort Sumter, explore the barrier islands, and enjoy the food and music at the community’s traditional Seafood Jamboree. We hope to learn much and develop a deeper appreciation for our Sea Island brothers and sisters in Christ and their ecologically-important coastal environment.
